Hiranuma Ryōzō ( Japanese 平沼 亮 三 ; born February 25, 1879 in Yokohama ( Kanagawa Prefecture ); died February 13, 1959 ) was a Japanese entrepreneur, politician and sports manager.

Live and act

Hiranuma Ryōzō graduated from Keiō University in 1898 . He was the managing director of Kirin Brewery , Tamagawa Electric Railway, Tokyo Gas and other companies. In 1924 he was elected to the House of Representatives and was a member of the House of Lords from 1932 .

Interested in promoting sports, he became deputy chairman of the "Japanese Sports Association" (大 日本 体育 協会, Dainippon taiiku kyōkai) in 1925, and chairman of the "All Japan Athletics Federation" (全 日本 陸上 競技 連 盟, Zen-Nippon rikujō kyōgi remmei) in 1930 Chairman of the "All Japan Gymnastics Federation" (全 日本 体操 連 盟, Zen-Nippon taisō remmei). As the successor to Kishi Seiichi, he led the Japanese team at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 1932 and 1936 in Berlin .

After the Pacific War he became chairman of the "Japan Sports Association" (大 日本 体育 会, Dainihon taiiku-kai). In 1946 he founded the "National Sports Festival" (国民 体育 大会, Kokumin taiiku taikai). In 1951 he became mayor of Yokohama.

In 1955, Hiranuma was honored as a person with special cultural merits and was awarded the Order of Culture .
