biography

In 1980, Araki took part in the young talent competition of Shōnen Jump , the manga magazine with the highest circulation, at Shūeisha publishing house , and won the Tezuka Prize with the short story Busō Poker . Originally, he wanted to apply to Shōnen Sunday magazine at Shogakukan , but was put off by the size of the publishing house. He then began his work for the Shōnen Jump , in which he succeeded from 1984 to 1985 with Baō Raihōsha . The approximately 350-page science fiction series was implemented as an original video animation (OVA). Baō Raihōsha is about a young man who, thanks to a parasite that was implanted in his brain, develops superhuman powers in difficult situations and thus becomes almost immortal.

Since 1987, the draftsman has been working on the Jojo no Kimyō na Bōken story cycle . This series appeared until 1999 in Shōnen Jump and comprises five parts with a total of 63 anthologies. In 2000, the sixth part of the cycle was started as a separate series, Stone Ocean , which was summarized in 17 anthologies. The seventh part, Steel Ball Run , first appeared in Shōnen Jump in 2004 , but then switched to the sister magazine Ultra Jump , which is aimed at an older target group. The series ended on April 19, 2011 and comprises 24 anthologies, the last of which will be published on June 3, 2011. The eighth part, JoJolion , also started on May 19, 2011 in the Ultra Jump , the edition of which was sold out and had to be reprinted.

Jojo no Kimyō na Bōken tells of the never-ending fight between the Joestar family and their opponent Dio Brando. With numerous allusions to western pop music, with constantly changing locations and with progressive action, also generation changes, the series became very successful in Japan. So far it comprises over 15,000 pages, which have also appeared in over 100 anthologies, and has been sold over 70 million times. In 2004 she was nominated for the Seiun Prize .

On the occasion of the 2009 exhibition Le Louvre invite la bande dessinée des Louvres , Araki drew the manga Rohan au Louvre ( 岸 辺 露 伴 ル ー ヴ ル へ 行 く ) around the character Rohan Kishibe , a mangaka from Jojo no Kimyō na Bōken . The manga was published in the French original edition on April 9, 2010, later in three chapters in Ultra Jump and on May 27, 2011 as a Japanese anthology.

His work has been translated into French, English, Malaysian, Italian, Thai, Chinese and Korean.
