Hiroyuki Nagato ( Japanese 長 門 裕 之 , Nagato Hiroyuki , actually: Akio Katō ( 加藤 晃 夫 , Katō Akio ); born January 10, 1934 in Nakagyō-ku , Kyōto ; † May 21, 2011 in Tokyo ) was a Japanese actor .

Life

Hiroyuki Nagato came from a family of actors, his father Kunitarō Sawamura IV (actually Yūichi Katō), his mother Tomoko Makino (actually Emiko Katō), his aunt Sadako Sawamura (actually Teiko Ōhashi) and his brother Masahiko Tsugawa were also active in the film business. His future wife Yōko Minamida , who died in 2009 after suffering from dementia , was also successful as an actress.

Hiroyuki Nagato was best known for his roles in Shōhei Imamura films . He became famous in 1956 with the film adaptation of Shintarō Ishihara's novel Taiyō no Kisetsu . In 1960 he received the Blue Ribbon Award for best actor in the film Nianchan . In 1964 he was honored as best supporting actor at the Mainichi Film Concours for the film Koto . In total, he was involved in over 100 productions as an actor. In the later years of his life, Hiroyuki Nagato was in public mainly because of the care of his sick wife and his demands for care for the elderly .
