Hiroyuki Sakaki

Hiroyuki Sakaki ( Japanese 榊 裕 之 , Sakaki Hiroyuki ; born October 6, 1944 in Aichi Prefecture ) is a Japanese physicist and electrical engineer in the field of solid-state electronics .

Sakaki earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1968 and an MS in 1970 , followed by a Ph.D. in 1973. in electrical engineering followed. All titles were earned at the University of Tokyo . From 1973 to 1987 he was Associate Professor at the Institute of Industrial Science at the University of Tokyo. Sakaki has been a professor there since 1987 . In the meantime he was a visiting scientist at the IBM Watson Research Center from 1976 to 1977 . From 1988 to 1998 he was Professor at the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology at the same university and from 1988 to 1993 director of the JST ERATO Project for "Quantum Wave" and from 1993 to 1998 co-director of the JST ICORP Project for "Quantum Transition ".

In 2000 he became a Fellow of the American Physical Society .

Awards

  • 1974 Outstanding Achievement Award (together with T. Sugano), IECEJ (Institute of Electronic and Communication Engineers of Japan) for basic research on MOS devices
  • 1983 Applied Physics Society Award for work in physics (ultra-thin semiconductors)
  • 1989 Japan IBM Science Prize for work on semiconductor quantum structures
  • 1990 Applied Physics Society Award for quantum wire superlattices
  • 1990 Hattori Hokokai Prize (Seiko's Founder's Prize)
  • 1991 Outstanding Achievement Award, IECEJ
  • 1996 David Sarnoff Award, IEEE (Institute of Electric and Electronic Engineers)
  • 2000 Fujiwara Prize
  • 2001 Medal on the Violet Ribbon (highest national prize for scientists and artists)
  • 2004 Esaki Award (with Yasuhiko Arakawa )
  • 2005 Prize of the Japanese Academy of Sciences (with Prof. Ohno)
  • In 2008 he was appointed Bunka Kōrōsha , a person with special cultural merits
  • 2010 NEC C&C Foundation Awards 2010 C&C Prize
