Hissar

Hissar is the most common translation of the Tajik - Persian geographical name "ҳисор", derived from the Arabic - Turkish word hisar ( Arabic حصار, DMG ḥiṣār ) and means "fortress" there. Alternative transcriptions are Hissor and Gissar ("Gissartal", "Gissargebirge"), the latter is transferred from the Russian transcription "гиссар".

  • Tepe Hissar , hill of ruins near Damghan in Iran
