Histone H2A is one of the five main histone - proteins of chromatin in eukaryotic cells . Consisting of a globular main domain and a long N-terminal end, it plays a role in the structure of the nucleosomes and thus the “string of pearls” structure of the chromatin threads.

variants

The term “histone H2A” encompasses several structurally very similar variants of H2A. Some of the known variants are H2A.1, H2A.2, H2A.X and H2A.Z.
