The historic briquette press in the Quadrath-Ichendorf district of Bergheim

The historical briquette press , so called by the local population and in the Bergheim city guide , is a historical briquette press that was erected as a technical monument in the Bergheim district of Quadrath-Ichendorf on Cologne-Aachener-Straße . The monument is intended to commemorate the early days of briquetting in the Rhenish lignite mining area .

Description and history

The press weighs 153 tons and has a briquette capacity of 4.5 tons per hour. It was built in 1889 and therefore dates from the early days of briquetting in the Rhenish lignite mining area. From 1892 to 1954 the press was located in the Gruhlwerk I briquette factory in Brühl and from 1955 to 1994 in the Fortuna-Nord factory in Niederaussem . On April 23, 2007, the briquette press was handed over to the population of Quadrath-Ichendorf on the initiative of the local homeland and history association.
