The Historic Revolutionary Memorial SSUK-Som is a memorial in Pyongyang ( North Korea ).

history

At the site of today's memorial, Kim Il-sung met with South Korean representatives (so-called united front ) on May 2, 1948 to discuss a common strategy for the future of a Korea under the aegis of the north. Ultimately, the negotiations failed.

The facility was inaugurated on August 10, 1990 on the 45th anniversary of the liberation of Korea from the Japanese colonial government with a solemn ceremony.

The focal point is the 13.5 m high monument in honor of the united front , which is lined with 56 granite slabs . In total, the facility is 380,000 m² and is divided into the actual memorial (120,000 m²) and a park (260,000 m²).

The place can be reached with a specially set up ferry or over the Chungsong Bridge . The memorial is located on Ssuk-sŏm Island in Taedong-gang ( Rakrang-guyŏk District ).
