Hittin or Hittim ( Arabic حطين Hattin , DMG Ḥaṭṭīn ) was a small town that was part of the former British League of Nations mandate for Palestine eight kilometers north of Tiberias and wasconqueredby Israel in1948 during the first Arab-Israeli war .

In 1187 the Battle of Hittin took place near the so-called Horns of Hittin , in which the Crusaders were decisively defeated by Saladin .

In Hittin there is a shrine that is venerated as the burial place of Jitro . Since 1948 it has been an exclusively Druze sanctuary for Nabi Shuʿaib .
