The village of Bunnen is part of the municipality of Löningen in the Cloppenburg district of the Oldenburger Münsterland .

history

It was probably the Germanic tribes who began to settle the local area around 2000–4000 years ago. Finds from the Neolithic in the northern Bunnen are evidence of this. The Romans also explored the Hasetal on their forays and brought a copper boy figure to the Bunner Moor (probably as an offering). This was found in 1875 near the Torfgraben and is now in the Oldenburg State Museum. The name Bunnen probably comes from the Latin “Bonum” because the merchants and legionaries of the Roman Empire found a “good rest” here. Around 900 Bunnen was first mentioned in a list of the Werden monastery .

geography

Bunnen consists of the farming communities Altenbunnen, Neuenbunnen, Hagel, Farwick and Bokah. The river Hase flows through the old ecclesiastical parish area and delimits the local political area in the south. In the western area near the Hase are the Bunner Masurians .

Churches

Bunnen belongs to the municipality of Löningen and is located in the Catholic Oldenburger Münsterland. Bunnen had its own priest since 1834. Until May 21, 1923, he was head of the Bunnen chapel community in the Löningen parish.

On 22 May 1923 the chapel congregation is St. Michael in Bunnen by the Bishop of Münster John Poggenburg independent parish in the deanery of Löningen Offizialatsbezirk Oldenburg of the Bishopric of Münster .

On October 3, 2007, the parish of St. Michael in Bunnen will again become part of the Catholic parish of St. Vitus (Löningen). With its subsidiary church St. Michael it is still the center of Catholic life. In addition to the farmers in the village of Bunnen , the Bunner Brokstreek (politically municipality Essen / Oldenburg ) and the eastern part of the Schelmkappe settlement (politically the town of Löningen ) belong to the ecclesiastical district of St. Michael .

literature

The writer Bernd Kessens wrote the historical novel "Rabenfluch" about the village of Bunnen , in which the relationships between farmers, serfs and laborers at the beginning of the 19th century are presented in a dramatic way.

Events

The BunnenRock Festival, which (with interruption) takes place every year in May, is attracting national attention. In the past, several bands popular across Germany were guests, including Selig , Die Happy , Reamonn , Creme 21 , Bananafishbones and Madsen .
