Heat cancer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As heat cancer is called skin or mucosa - cancers that are caused by years of exposure to heat.

Examples and pathogenesis

The best known cancer induced by chronic heat exposure is kangri cancer . This is a skin carcinoma observed in the Kashmir Valley, which is caused as a result of prolonged exposure to heat from a coal stove worn under clothing - the kangri . The effect of heat initially creates reticulated pigmentation on the skin, a so-called erythema ab igne or Buschke heat melanosis. If the erythema becomes chronic, it can develop into a squamous cell carcinoma (spinaloma) after many years . These tumors are highly aggressive.

The chronic use of hot water bottles on the stomach can also cause squamous cell carcinoma over many years and the intermediate stage erythema ab igne .

In Ireland until the 1960s there were cancers induced by the heat of peat ovens.

In an epidemiological study from Iran , a clear connection between the consumption of very hot tea (> 70 ° C) and the occurrence of esophageal cancer was found. The province of Golestan has one of the highest rates of esophageal cancer worldwide. One possible cause of the carcinogenic effect that has been discussed is the chronic irritation and inflammation of the mucosa of the esophagus. Other studies, for example from South America, come to similar results.

In the cases mentioned, the heat is just bearable. There are no burns. This is the main difference to burn scar cancer , which develops from burn scars.
