Hjerl Hede is an open-air museum in the municipality of Holstebro , located between the towns of Skive and Holstebro . It presents the history of rural Jutland from the Stone Age to modern times.

history

The museum was founded in 1930 by director Hans Peter Hjerl Hansen and operated by the Hjerl Foundation until 1979. In 1979 the museum was separated from the foundation and has been operated as an independent institution ever since. On January 1st 2012 it merged with the Holstebro Museum and Strandingsmuseum St. George to form the institution "De Kulturhistoriske Museer i Holstebro Kommune".

description

Hjerl Hede consists of more than 50 different buildings that give an insight into old Danish village life. The museum essentially consists of three large parts, the old village, the moor management museum and the forest museum. A special feature is the Stone Age village, which is a bit out of the way on the site; Here the visitor meets “real” Stone Age people during the season.

Hjerl Hede belongs to the network of state-recognized museums in Denmark. The museum wants to convey “living history” and from the end of June to the beginning of August up to 100 women, children and men will demonstrate various, mostly old, now forgotten craft trades. The school is populated by children in historical clothing, in the forge small objects are made for the visitors. In the grocery store you can buy goods “from the old days”, and bread and cakes are baked in the bakery.
