Hlegu ( Burmese လှည်းကူး ; BGN / PCGN : hligu) is a small town in southern Myanmar , 45 kilometers northeast of Yangon (Rangoon), the former capital of Burma .
70 percent of the population are considered poor here. The cyclone Nargis destroyed large parts Hlegus in May of 2008.
