Bahçeşehir

Bahçeşehir is a district that enjoyed parish status between 1999 and 2009 and was part of Büyükçekmece . The district on the European side of Istanbul is now part of the Başakşehir municipality . The name Bahçeşehir ( Persian باغچهشهر, DMG Bāġčešahr ) means "garden city".

history

Bahçeşehir was originally planned under the government of Turgut Özal by the then state-owned real estate bank ( Emlakbank ) as a satellite city project comprising 16,000 residential units. By 1990, 6000 apartments, terraced houses and single-family houses had been completed and occupied. The slump in real estate in Turkey in the 1990s caused the project to come to a standstill. After the completion of the project was handed over to the state housing company TOKI in 2002 , the project got new momentum with the renewed real estate boom and, at the end of construction, is even expected to be far larger than the original plan.

economy

Since 1995 there has been a plant of Mercedes-Benz Türk, a subsidiary of Daimler AG, in the Hoşdere district . About 2000 employees produce Mercedes-Benz city buses , intercity buses and touring buses there . A new plant was inaugurated in 2005, and in 2007 the headquarters of Mercedes-Benz Türk was relocated to Hoşdere.

The German hospital in Istanbul ( Alman Hastanesi ) has a branch in Bahçeşehir.
