The Hochkreuz Hardt-Venn is located in the district of Venn in Mönchengladbach ( North Rhine-Westphalia ), Thomas-Mann-Straße.

The cross was erected in 1885. It was entered in the monuments list of the city of Mönchengladbach on April 16, 1999 under No. T 013 .

location

The high cross is at the intersection of two paths on the old part of the cemetery in Venn.

architecture

The high cross with a height of approx. 5 m is made of brownish sandstone (possibly Ruhr sandstone). The shaft cross with the corpus and the writing tablet ( INRI ) rises above a two-tiered base and a multi-tiered, upwardly tapering central building with inscribed text . The base of the cross flows into a base that is widened several times and shaped by water hammer, which leads into a framed field with the Christ monogram sitting in a circular frame. On the front facing north towards the main entrance (Stationsweg), the central building bears the inscription:

It is a holy and salutary thought to pray for the dead. / Erected in 1885.

The reverse bears the inscription:

Property of the cath. Parish church to Venn.

The object is worth protecting as a monument for local, social and art historical reasons.
