The Breitloh flood retention basin , also known as Breitlohsee , is a retention basin in the course of the Brettach just before Rot am See in the Schwäbisch Hall district in northeastern Baden-Württemberg and is operated by the Brettach Water Association.

description

The reservoir is located about 0.5 km northeast of the town limits of Rot am See in the valley basin of the middle Brettach on the southern edge of the Breitloh forest area . The surface of the permanent lake traversed by this small river from east to west on the boundary of the central part of the municipality, which arches around a hill in the south, is usually 409  m above sea level. NHN , it is about 310 meters long and up to about 80 meters wide, covers an area of 1.9 hectares and contains 38,000 m³ of water. In the event of a flood, the 9.4 m high earth dam, on the top of which a farm road crosses the valley basin, holds back up to 184,000 m³ more water, which can be drained off in a controlled manner.

The catchment area covers about 59.6 km² and, in terms of natural space , lies in several sub-areas of the partly strongly karstified eastern Hohenlohe and Haller levels . In the area of the reservoir, as in most of the catchment area, Lettenkeuper ( Erfurt formation ) is due.
