The 2nd Regionalliga Süd is only available for men. It does not apply to the women, the subordinate leagues are arranged one level higher there. For promotion to the (1st) regional league, the winners of the upper league will play two-way promotion games with a return game.

Bundesliga

Since April 1, 2003 there has been a single-track 1st Bundesliga on the field, in which the men and women play 12 teams. After completing a first half of the round, in which everyone plays two games against each other, the best four teams play out the German champions in the knockout system .

On the second level there is a 2nd Bundesliga, which plays in two groups (relays): the clubs from the IGN and WHV area play in the north group, and the clubs from OHV and SHV in the south group. Each group has eight participants for women and ten for men. Here, too, a double round is played.

The group winners of the 2nd division move up to the 1st division, from which the last two teams are relegated. The relegated members are assigned to the group to which they belong regionally. The winners of the regional leagues move up to the assigned group of the 2nd Bundesliga: North and West in the North group, East and South in the South group. So many teams (one, two or three) are relegated from each group in the 2nd division that the group size remains the same.

Regional league

While 2nd teams are not allowed to play in the national leagues, this is regulated differently in the regional leagues. In the north, in the east and in the west this is allowed if the 1st team plays in the 1st Bundesliga, in the south it is not allowed in the 1st regional league. There are further differences in the regions in terms of promotion regulations: in the north there is only one promoter, in the other regional leagues two.

Oberliga, Association League

There are 11 major leagues organized by the state hockey associations. Different state associations have common upper leagues or, like Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein or Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia, common game traffic. There may be association leagues below the major league. The number of stages is very different. Some regional associations, e.g. B. Baden-Württemberg and Hamburg, graduate up to the 4th Association League, others, z. B. West (North Rhine-Westphalia plus Osnabrücker Land and Bad Neuenahr) and Berlin in the hall, prefer flat structures and play in several groups. Small state associations may not have any association leagues.

Hall

Since November 1st, 2000, the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga have been played in the hall in four groups according to the regional structure. Since smaller teams are played indoors, there are more teams. Therefore, there are more association leagues in the hall. Otherwise, the league system is structured as in the field:

Due to the structure, the relegation regulations are simpler than in the field. The last of each group of the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga is relegated, the group leaders of the 2nd Bundesliga and the winners of the regional leagues are promoted. The restrictions for playing 2nd teams in the regional league are sometimes stronger indoors than on the field.
