The Ligerz farm from the west

The court Ligerz (fr. Cour Gléresse, La Porte or Le Fornel) is a castle on the western outskirts of Ligerz in Schafis , one to La Neuveville belonging to the district and was built in 1555 in the field of the diocese of Basel. Today the site is in the hamlet of Schafis (French: Chavannes ) in the municipality of La Neuveville in the canton of Bern .

Rudolf de Gléresse is considered to be the builder of the courtyard. He had the western part built around 1545 on porches from the 15th century and the eastern part with the bay window around 1555. Until it was sold in 1814, the manorial house remained in the possession of the von Ligerz family, whose headquarters were on the "Festi" above the village. But by the 17th century they were no longer located here either. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the house then passed through various private hands. Since 1970 the foundation of the Rebbau-Museum has been based in the “Hof”.

A house with a past

The oriels made of yellow stone (shell limestone, French: Hauterive ) and the three-part row windows with fine fan rosettes and shell ornaments bear witness to the high art of stone carving in the 16th century . On the southern eaves front, framed by shield-holder lions, is the builder's coat of arms: three long-stemmed clovers on a blue three-mountain .

The “Hof” represented - as a typical local noble residence - for 250 years the power of the influential family of the Lords of Ligerz - the “de Gléresse”. Today rooms such as the fireplace hall or the bay hall still give an idea of the feudal living and lifestyle of the time.

Other buildings of the "de Gléresse"

Vincent de Gléresse built the "Maison de Gléresse" in 1578 between town and suburb (Faubourg) in La Neuveville on Rue des Fossés 1 / Route du Chateau. The government governor's office (French Conseil du Jura bernoise) is located in this house .

1750/1751, at the height of the work of the “von Ligerz”, the stately “Hôtel de Gléresse” was built in Pruntrut .

Extinct ancestry

The last "de Gléresse" were high church dignitaries, with them the family died out at the beginning of the 19th century.
