The Hofjägerhaus , also Villa Glenck called, is one as a cultural monument designated Villa in Gotha , Mozart Street. 5

history

At the beginning of the 19th century, the villa on what was then Ohrdrufer Strasse was approx. 10 × 15 m in size, had a spiral staircase on the east side and belonged to the innkeeper and reindeer Johann Wilhelm Gäbler. He leased the building to the ducal rent commissioner, forest accountant and court hunter Eduard Glenck (1817-1884), a son of the ducal superior Carl Christian Friedrich Glenck (1779-1845).

In 1849 Eduard Glenck had the villa completely rebuilt by the court architect Gustav Eberhard . It received a spacious hallway and staircase and a massive neo-Gothic gable facade. In 1860, Glenck bought the house from the Gäbler family for 10,500 thalers.

In 1864 the house was sold to the rentier and businessman Wilhelm Biedermann, who lived in it with his 8 children and had some modernization measures carried out. His daughter Marie Biedermann sold the house in 1909 to Gothaer Lebensversicherung , which had it converted for their employees. First their general director Karl August Friedrich Samwer moved there and lived there until his death in 1946. After that, the house was divided into three apartments and was inhabited by the last Gotha Minister of State, Hans Barthold von Bassewitz , among others until 1949 .

After the founding of the GDR , the house was administered by the city of Gotha and from 1950 was initially used as a children's home and later as a day nursery and kindergarten . From 1995 to 2004, associations such as the theater association “Art der Stadt Gotha” and the educational institution Urania were housed there. This was followed by an acquisition by Rita Becherer and a thorough renovation for residential and office purposes.
