Life

Karl Samwer was born as the son of the lawyer Karl Friedrich Lucian Samwer . He attended the High School Ernestinum and then studied in Leipzig and Berlin law . In 1883 Samwer received his doctorate on the relationship between gifts due to death and gifts among the living and the legacy in Leipzig. He completed his legal traineeship in Gotha, Kiel and Wandsbek in 1889 with the exam as an assessor . In 1891 he took up a job at Gothaer Lebensversicherungsbank , of which he was a member of the board from 1895. In 1924 the subsidiary Gothaer Allgemeine Versicherung AG was founded under his leadership .

In addition to his activities at Gothaer Insurance and actuarial publications, he was involved in the community: from 1890 to 1894 he was a poor carer for the city, from 1896 to 1903 a member of the poor commission and from 1898 to 1909 a member of the school board for the elementary schools . Karl Samwer was a city councilor between 1903 and 1919 , including twelve years as city councilor chief.
