The Hohenstein Tunnel is a 103 m long railway tunnel on the Stuttgart – Hattingen railway line in the Rottweil district in Baden-Württemberg .

Location and course

The tunnel is located between the route kilometers 117.382 and 117.486.

The route runs straight in the tunnel, with arches connecting to both portals. The permissible speed is 90 km / h.

In the tunnel is the boundary between Dietingen and Rottweil .

The entrance signal for Talhausen station is south of the tunnel. In terms of rail operations , the tunnel is thus part of the depot.

history

The tunnel was built between 1868 and 1888. The section between Talhausen and Rottweil was opened on July 23, 1868. The structure was capitalized in 1927 .

The double-track tunnel was removed to one track (on the east side of the tunnel) after the Second World War.

In 2008, the structure was rated 1 ("Punctual damage to the structural part that does not affect safety. Measures for preventive maintenance are to be checked for economic viability for structural parts that are to be preserved over the long term [more than 30 years]."), 2014 and 2017 Condition grade 3 ("Extensive damage to the structural part, which does not affect the stability. Repair is still possible, its economic viability must be checked").

Around 2014 the tunnel was used daily by 14 long-distance passenger trains, 35 local rail passenger trains, 19 freight trains and 6 other trains (sum of both directions).

A three-year renovation of the masonry and the portals was planned from 2015 (as of 2014).
