Villa Hohenzollernstrasse 12 (2014)

The building at Hohenzollernstrasse 12 is a villa in the Bad Godesberg district of Bonn , which was built in 1904. It is located in the middle of the Godesberg villa district . During the time of Bonn as the seat of government of the Federal Republic of Germany, the villa served several times as an embassy building, most recently for Somalia , and has been vacant since 2000 as a result of unclear power relations in the country.

history

At the end of the 1950s, the building was home to the social welfare office and the refugee counseling center of the German Federal Student Association as well as the consulate, visa and cultural department of the Indonesian embassy . By 1968 at the latest, the Republic of Kenya set up the office of its embassy there, which is located here until 1973 was. From 1974 to 1977 it served as the office building of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq . The following user of the property was the Embassy of the Democratic Republic of Somalia with its law firm in 1978 . Even after the end of the Democratic Republic of Somalia on January 26, 1991, the embassy remained under its previous name, but there were no new Somali diplomatsaccredited . After the formation of a transitional government of Somalia in April / May 2000, the embassy was closed on June 1, 2000, because the remaining members of the embassy were no longer recognized as Somali diplomatic representatives. The Foreign Office then had the building sealed. Before 2010 it was sold. After a court ruled that the sale of the embassy building in Bonn was illegal, the Somali ambassador, who had been in office again since March 2008, hoisted the Somali flag there again in January 2011 . However, the building is still empty and is falling into disrepair (as of September 2017).
