description
The lime-rich water flows over a stepped terrain and has formed numerous sintered terraces over time. The development is similar to that of the stone gutters . The rainwater of the Alb plateau seeps away and absorbs many minerals . It then emerges from a layer of clay ( ornate clay ) at two sources that merge into a small stream just before the terraces. The water has a temperature of about 8 degrees and only warms up slowly. This releases carbon dioxide into the air and some of the water evaporates. Lime precipitates and forms the sintered terraces, favored by a growth of moss .
The terraces are about 40 meters long, 25 meters wide and about 7 meters high. They are designated as a geotope (373Q004). The water then flows into the Kirchenbach , which flows into the Main-Danube Canal after about two kilometers .
