The Slavic castle wall Hoher Wall is located in the municipality of Warrenzin southwest of the village Wolkow in the Mecklenburg Lake District .

The soil monument is located on the northern wooded high bank of the Peene and was a one-part low castle . Finds of Sukower and Feldberg ceramics date this castle complex to the older Slavic period of the 7th to 9th centuries.

The castle consists of an arched section wall with a moat in front of it. Two clear depressions in the wall indicate the former entrance gates. Possibly there was a third one facing the Peene . In the immediate vicinity there is the field name Dbodstaede (village location), which suggests a suburb settlement.

The castle was located in the tribal area of the Zirzipans , who were one of the main Wilzen tribes at that time .

Another Slavic castle complex on the Peene, the “ White Wall ”, is located 2.5 kilometers to the northeast .

Monument protection

The castle stable of the ramparts is a ground monument according to the monument protection law of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . Investigations and targeted collection of finds are subject to approval, and accidental finds are reported to the monument authorities.
