Ball planting with the hollow spade

The hollow spade , or planting spade , is a planting tool . The spade is characterized unlike other spade by its strongly curved blade with the top long and shorter down bow out. It is mainly used in forestry as well as in horticulture and landscaping for planting woody plants .

use

The hollow spade is mainly used for the planting techniques of hole planting and clamp planting . The hole planting is used to plant plants with already hardened side roots. Here a conical plug of soil is dug with two punctures, after the plant has been inserted, the hole is closed again in layers with the excavated soil. With the clamp planting, the resulting plug is not excavated, but left on the spade leaf. The seedling with the still soft side roots is placed on the opposite wall. The plug is put back into the hole and pressed on.

variants

The hollow spade is a traditional forestry tool that was implemented differently from region to region. In an edition of the Forstliche Blätter from 1865, a distinction is made between cylindrical hollow spades (Prussian), graduated conical hollow spades (Hessian) and completely conical hollow spades (Magdeburg). The forestry consultant and inventor Carl Junack developed the hollow godfather so that today especially the Junack'sche hollow godfather is used.
