Holden is an impact crater to the east of the lunar front , on the eastern edge of Mare Fecunditatis , immediately south of Vendelinus crater . The crater is moderately eroded with terracing of the inner wall, the floor is largely flat.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the American astronomer Edward Singleton Holden .
