The Peter Mortell Holder of the Year Award (HOTY) has been awarded since 2015 for the best holder in college football .

On 1 December 2015, published punter and holder of the Minnesota Golden Gophers , Peter Mortell , a Tweet in which he himself to the Holder of the Year nominated. This tweet was spread by US media. In response to this tweet, the first Holder of the Year was presented at the College Football Awards ceremony on December 10, 2015 . Mortell was also the winner here. In 2016, Garrett Moores from the University of Michigan won . In 2017, Connor McGinnis of the Oklahoma Sooners won the award. In 2018, Mac Loudermilk from the University of Central Florida won .
