Holger Ernst

Holger Ernst (* 1972 ) is a German film director and screenwriter. He currently lives in Berlin and Los Angeles.

biography

Holger Ernst studied at the Kunsthochschule Kassel from 1994 to 2001 and graduated with a specialization in scriptwriting and directing. He has lived in Germany and the USA since 1992. He directed a variety of short films and commercials, which won awards at the Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Toronto, Montreal, New York, Paris and Tokyo film festivals, among others.

The critically acclaimed film Rain is Falling was shown at the Berlinale and in Venice and was awarded the BAFTA / LA Award for Excellence and the Max Ophüls Prize of the Saarbrücken Film Festival and was nominated for the European Film Prize . Ernst received numerous national and international nominations and awards for his scripts Life Goes On , Family - Dismantling a Soul and We Are the Greatest .

The House is Burning (produced by Reverse Angle International: Wim Wenders , Peter Schwartzkopff ), co-produced by Oscar winner Alex Gibney is his debut as a feature film director and celebrated its world premiere in the official program at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival. The cinema release in Germany was on November 16, 2006. The film won prizes at international festivals in Wrocław, Hoboken and Seoul and was awarded the title “Particularly Valuable” by the FBW .

He is currently working on other national and international film projects, including the drama DOPE - Dreaming Of Paradise Europe for Reverse Angle International , the drama Cold War and Ivory with the US production company Occupant Films and another international film project together with Guillermo Arriaga .

For commercials, Holger Ernst is represented by the Berlin production company Jo! Schmid, for feature films and television by the Spielkind agency.
