Holger Gabriel

Holger Gabriel (* 1962 ) is a German sports doctor and university professor .

Life

Gabriel studied medicine from 1981 to 1987 at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf and at the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen . In 1989 he completed his doctoral thesis in Düsseldorf and then worked from 1989 to 1999 under Wilfried Kindermann at the Institute for Sports and Preventive Medicine at the Saarland University. In 1998 he submitted his habilitation (subject: “Competitive sport and the immune system”).

In 1999 he took up a professorship for sports medicine at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena . In Jena, he also became head of the Thuringian anti-doping advice center from 2003. In 2008 Gabriel was appointed to the board of trustees for the award of the science prize of the German Olympic Sports Confederation . In 2011 Gabriel took over the position of director of the Institute for Sports Science at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena.
