Holger Wölk

Holger Wölk is a former German swimming athlete.

Career

Holger Wölk, who comes from Dortmund , took part in three Paralympic Summer Games with the German National Disabled Swimming Team in the short distances over 100 m, 200 m and the medium distance over 400 m.

At the Paralympic Summer Games in 1984 he was second in the 100 m backstroke.

Holger Wölk was particularly successful at the following Paralympic Summer Games in 1988 : He won a total of four gold medals, namely over 100 m freestyle, 100 m back, 200 m individual medley and 400 m freestyle.

At the 1992 Paralympic Summer Games in Barcelona , he won the gold medal in 100 m freestyle swimming. He won another gold medal in the 100 m breaststroke. Last but not least, he won gold again with the 4 × 100 m relay made up of Holger Wölk, Geert Jahresig , Detlef Schmidt and Jochen Hahnengress .

For winning a medal at the Paralympic Summer Games in 1992, he and the members of the squadron were awarded the silver laurel leaf by Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker .
