Dutch Synagogue (Antwerp)
The Dutch Synagogue (also Synagoog Bouwmeester or Hollandse Synagoge ) in Antwerp , a Belgian city in the Flanders region and capital of the Province of Antwerp , was built in 1892/93. The synagogue on Bouwmeestersstraat, which was built for Jews who moved from the Netherlands in the 19th century , has been a protected monument since 1976 .
history
The synagogue in the oriental style , built according to plans by architects Joseph Hertogs (1861–1930) and Ernest Stordiau (1855–1937) from Antwerp, was inaugurated on September 7, 1893.
After being damaged in World War II , the building was renovated in 1958.
The house of God of the Orthodox community Shomre Hadas has been extensively renovated since September 2017 , but there is still a service every Shabbat .
