Holleman-Wiberg: Textbook of Inorganic Chemistry (also Holleman-Wiberg or HoWi for short ) is one of the standard textbooks on inorganic chemistry in the German-speaking world. The work, published by de Gruyter Verlag and the 103rd edition in 2016, comprises 2,600 pages and appears for the first time in two volumes.

The book, which is also available in English, contains information on all known chemical elements and their inorganic and organometallic compounds . It provides both basic and material knowledge of inorganic and organometallic chemistry. The individual chapters deal element-by-element with element and molecular properties as well as solid-state and nuclear chemistry.

history

The first edition was published by the Dutch chemist Arnold F. Holleman in 1898 and appeared in a German-language edition in 1900 in collaboration with Wilhelm Manchot . Holleman worked on the work until the 19th edition (1900–1927). The 20th and 21st edition was looked after by EH Büchner from 1930–1937. The work was later continued from the 22nd edition to the 90th edition by Egon Wiberg and, after his death, by his son Nils Wiberg (91st – 103rd edition).

From 1902 several English-language editions of the textbook appeared. It has also been translated into Italian. In 1967 it was also translated into Serbo-Croatian and relocated to Zagreb.
