The Hollwinkeler Holz is a forest area that is predominantly in the area of the city of Preußisch Oldendorf in the Minden-Lübbecke district . There are hardly any height differences within the forest, it is between 50 and 52 m above sea level. A negligible part in the south of only around 0.58 hectares belongs to the city of Lübbecke. With a forest area of 47 hectares, it is the largest forest area between the Wiehen Mountains and the Mittelland Canal within the Minden-Lübbecke district and also the largest forest in the city of Preußisch Oldendorf north of the Wiehen Mountains or the Egge . In addition, within a radius of 4.5 km (i.e. 63 km² surrounding area) there is no nearly as large forest area. The extent of the forest from northeast to southwest is around 1.3 km and at its widest point it measures around 700 m from east to west. The Hollwinkeler Holz is bounded in the west by the Große Aue and in the east by the border to the city of Lübbecke . The Mehner Bach flows through the forest in the far northeast. In the northwest of the forest there is a 0.25 hectare pond with a small island.

It is an almost pure deciduous forest . Around 4 km of hiking and forest trails make it a popular local recreation area in the surrounding villages. A car road crosses the wood from north-west to south-east in the southern area and thus ensures the connection to the district road K 80 in the west. The importance of this relatively small forest area results from the fact that the Minden-Lübbecke district is one of the least forested districts in Westphalia with only 10.6 percent of the forest area. In particular, the northern Wiehengebirge foothills , which are used intensively for agriculture , only have a few larger forest areas.
