Holly Frontier is a US-based companies in the oil industry , with headquarters in Dallas . Independent refiner HollyFrontier owns five petroleum refineries in the United States with a combined processing capacity of 457,000 bpd . In addition, the company owns the trademark rights to Petro-Canada Lubricants and produces a variety of technical lubricating oils at its Canadian location in Ontario .

HollyFrontier Corporation was formed in 2011 from the merger of Holly Corporation with Frontier Oil Corporation. The oldest predecessor company, Holly, was founded in 1947 as the General Appliance Corporation. Frontier had its first predecessor in the 1949 Wainoco Oil Corporation, which was engaged in oil and gas field exploration and mineral extraction in the United States and Canada. General Appliance changed its company to Holly Corporation in 1952 and went public in 1955. Wainoco went public in 1981 and renamed itself Frontier Oil Corporation in 1998. The merged company acquired Petro-Canada Lubricants Inc. in 2017.
