The Hollywood Tour is a water theme ride under the theme "Fantasy" of Brühl Parks Phantasialand . The train was opened in 1990 and shows passengers “scenes from famous film classics” (quote from an Alfred Hitchcock figure in the entrance area). The driving system with boats was built by Intamin AG Switzerland, the interior fittings and figures were supplied by Hofmann. The Hollywood Tour shares the building with the “ Crazy Bats ” dark roller coaster , which is located in the upper part, and the neighboring “Fantissima” area.
At the time of its opening, the Hollywood Tour was presented and heavily promoted as one of the park's main attractions. Together with the “Petit Paris” area, which was opened at the same time, DM 15 million were invested in the Dark Ride . The opening was celebrated with 600 invited guests, including many celebrities such as Marlène Charell , Désirée Nosbusch and Max Schautzer .
Boats for a maximum of 20 people are used as the driving system. The boats are moved by water currents in a channel at about 0.6 meters per second over the 340 meters long route. A total of 30 pumps circulate the approximately 2000 cubic meters of water. In the scenes, the passing of the boats triggers various events, for example the appearance of the sharks in the “Jaws” scene or the overturning of the pillars in the “Samson / Sindbad” scene. At the transitions between the different film scenes, friction wheels attached under water are also used to ensure that only one boat drives through a scene at a time. In addition, the boats can be stopped at these points for evacuation in emergencies. A total of up to 15 boats are used, which means the trip has a theoretical capacity of a maximum of 2400 people per hour. The station is higher than the rest of the route, and at the end of the eight-minute journey, the boats are transported back to the level of the station on a conveyor belt.
journey
The entrance area is designed as a film studio to match the theme of the attraction . In addition to boarding, an Alfred Hitchcock animatronic greets the passengers. Through a gate framed with light bulbs, the boats descend into an artificial stalactite grotto, which shows the visitor the change into the adventure world. The departure shortly after the station is a style element that is used in various water-themed rides, such as " Pirates in Batavia " in Europa-Park .
During the journey through the stalactite sections between the scenes, the atmospheric music piece Voyager by Wavestar, reminiscent of the sounds of spheres, can be heard as background music.
All the scenes shown are listed below in the order of their journeys:
Surname | description |
---|---|
The White shark | A fishing boat is sunk, the jetty collapses and sharks emerge from the water. |
Tarantula | The boats pass between the legs of an oversized tarantula while a helicopter shoots at the giant spider. |
Samson | In 1999 it was redesigned to become Sindbad the Navigator |
Sinbad the Navigator | An oriental scene is shown, with columns seemingly tilting towards the visitors. |
Frankenstein | Frankenstein's monster comes to life and, in the second part of the scene, kills Elisabeth over the heads of the audience; Parts of the scene have been deactivated since the renovation in 2007 to make the attraction less scary and therefore more family-friendly. |
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea | Underwater scene: divers find a treasure surrounded by sharks and anemones. |
Tarzan | Tarzan rides an elephant, monkeys go water-skiing and are pulled by a crocodile. |
The birds | A woman is attacked by ravens; was redesigned in 2007 to The Wizard of Oz . |
The Wizard of Oz | Replaced The Birds ; It shows the house after landing, in front of which Glinda is standing. Since 2008 Dorothy, who previously could only be heard talking, has also been standing on the veranda of the house. |
King Kong | A giant King Kong is machine gun shot at from a boat while attacking the boat. |
In addition to the largely elaborate representation of the actual film scenes with around 80 life-size animatronics, film teams and other film equipment can also be seen in many scenes. For example, in the tarantula scene there is a director who seems to be shouting instructions and a camera truck moving on rails.
Until 2007, the end of the attraction led through the “Petit Paris” restaurant and show area in the same building, renamed “Cristallion” in 2000. The area has been used for the “Fantissima” dinner show since 2004, which is why an emergency exit was used at times as a makeshift. At the end of 2007 the exit was rebuilt, in the course of which the scene The Birds was transformed into The Wizard of Oz and some other small renovations were carried out.
