Holstein Low German is the variant of Low German spoken in the Holstein region . Sub-dialects of Holstein are among others the Reinfelder Platt, the Dithmarscher Platt, the Fehmarner Platt, the Ostholsteinisches Platt . In the Low German passages of his work Buddenbrooks , Thomas Mann used the Reinfelder Platt.
Neighboring dialects or variants are Schleswigsch , Mecklenburgisch and the dialects of the Hamburger Platt . In addition, Missingsch , a mixed language of High and Low German, is also spoken (especially in the Hamburg area) . Neighboring languages are North Frisian and Danish in the Schleswig region .
