Holtey (old spelling: Holtoye ) is the name of an old Westphalian noble family from the county of Mark , which also developed a Baltic line.

history

The first documentary mention is in 1221 for Arnoldus de Holtoye et Arnoldus filius eius . The stock seats were in the area of Essen Abbey ( castle Holtey in today food belonging Burgaltendorf ) and in the County of Mark in Horde (now Eichlinghofen and Benninghofen ). There were close family ties to the von Horst family . In the early 14th century, a papal ban was issued for robber baronship, 1387-1391 Goswin von Holtey took part in the great Dortmund feud on the side of Count von der Mark . Maria Caspara von Holtey was the mother of Wirich VI. by Daun-Falkenstein . Around 1580 the Westphalian branch died out in the male line. The continuing Baltic line existed with a focus on Zemgale and Courland ( Latvia ), the Barons von Holtey lost all goods there in connection with a Latvian land reform around 1918 and finally the Second World War.

The coat of arms shows three red horseflies (Pramen) in gold . On the helmet with a red and gold blanket, one of the horse brakes between the open golden flight, each covered with a horse brake.
