The so-called Holtkämerei is the oldest house in the Gütersloh district of Isselhorst that still exists on the original site (only the tower of the neighboring Isselhorst church is older). The half-timbered house , built in 1623, is registered with the number A 018 in the Gütersloh monument list and was monument of the month in Westphalia-Lippe in November 2002 .

In the townscape of Isselhorst, the Holtkämperei forms a historical ensemble with the listed objects around the Isselhorster church square, namely the church, the old school, the historic inn "Zur Linde" and the cantor house.

history

The three-column house was built near the Lutter by the married couple Johann Pohlmann, Niederummeln , and Sophia Pohlmann, née Viertmann, Niehorst , who ran a bakery and a goods store in the house. Their only daughter Catharina Pohlmann, who married the wood turner Cord Lütgert († 1676) from Ummeln, took over the house. The next owner was again her son Conrad (* 1656), who, in addition to trading, also made brandy. The Holtkämerei is thus the cradle of the grain distillery in Isselhorst, which became known for its Elmendorf distillery . With the former Feldscher Peter Lütgert, who practiced in the house from 1733 to 1766 as a "surgeon" and built a well and a toilet there, the first medic in the village also lived in the - at that time not yet so called - Holtkämerei. Then the doctor Johann-Hermann-Heinrich Hünecke bought the house.

The name Holtkämpferei only came into being when the rendant and postal agent (who also took over postal services), Heinrich-Adolf Holtkamp, who had married Hünecke's daughter Christine-Luise, moved in. When exactly the move took place is unknown, but it is certain that the Isselhorster Post Agency, established on April 1, 1865, was based in the building. Presumably there was a post office there since 1817 , i. H. a stopping point and changing horses. The Holtkamp family lived in the house until 1911.

People lived in the building continuously until 1978, before a twenty year period of decay began. In 1984 the house was listed as a historical monument . In 1998, citizens of Isselhorst founded the »Working Group for the Rescue of the Holtkämperei«. Under the direction of Dipl.-Ing. Ortwin Schwengelbeck, the Holtkämperei was gradually restored over a number of years, supported by funding of 300,000 euros. The aim was to largely restore the building to its original state. After long negotiations with the owner, the building is now used as a domicile by the Heimatverein Isselhorst eV.
