The lumberyard Zeil was a 1967 based forestry company of the house Waldburg-Zeil in Unterzeil, a suburb of Leutkirch im Allgäu below Schloss Zeil in the district of Ravensburg in Baden-Württemberg . On August 1, 2015, the Holzhof Zeil ceased operations.
Wooden yard
Even in the days of rafting on the Iller , the timber trade was an important part of the economic activities of the Waldburg-Zeil family. Today's Holzhof is part of the Waldburg-Zeil forestry operation and was founded in 1967. It has a processing capacity of 100,000 solid cubic meters of round wood per year in one-shift operation. This makes it the largest timber yard in the state of Baden-Württemberg. 40,000 cubic meters each come from their own forest. 60,000 solid cubic meters can be processed from other forests. The system is designed for the coniferous sawn timber from the Oberschwaben region and the Allgäu . The annual amount of spruce and fir logs felled in the state of Baden-Württemberg, which is around four and a half million cubic meters per year, can be used as a comparative figure. The aim of the construction of the timber yard was to break off the wage-intensive harvesting work , which mainly takes place in winter, after felling and to relocate it to stationary machinery.
The Holzhof is an area of around 30,000 m 2 and is located below and within sight of the headquarters of the Waldburg-Zeil company, near the federal motorway 96 and the railway line of the Württemberg Allgäu Railway . He had fifteen full-time employees. The technical facilities of the wood yard consist of a sorting line for small diameter logs and a 1971 newly added Starkholzeinteil- and sorting system and the associated transverse conveyors and length of storage boxes. The main customers of the Holzhof were the sawmills from the region.
Plans are underway for the use of the site by the Austrian cable car manufacturer Doppelmayr .
Sorting, debarking and logistics
The delivered round wood, which is usually felled in winter, is, if this has not already been done in the forest, debarked and the end trunk reduced. The logs are then digitally measured and categorized. The measurement is carried out according to the length of the trunk, top diameter , center diameter and wood quality. The measurement has a measurement deviation of 3.5 cm.
