Markwald

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A marrow forest is a forest area that is managed jointly by several locations.

The forest does not belong to the demarcation of the respective places, but is part of a common demarcation, the Markgenossenschaft . Even after the dissolution of the marrow cooperatives, the name “Markwald” has been retained as the name of the respective forests to this day.

Residents of the surrounding communities, as far as they are members of the marrow, have the right to cut wood in the marrow forest, to graze their cattle in the forest (cattle drift or acorn fattening ) and the like. However, the hunting right is not included. The members of the Markgenossenschaft have a percentage of the forest, but no specific claim to ownership. They have co-determination rights and the type of management is jointly decided upon at the proposal of the responsible forester in annual plenary meetings. For example, you can decide whether and where to reforest or whether wind turbines should be built on the forest area . They also benefit from the distributions that the Markgenossenschaft can make if their income from the sale of timber, hunting leases, etc. exceeds their expenses.
