Homemade is an album that the duo Cephas & Wiggins released on Alligator Records in 1999 .

General

The album is in the tradition of the Piedmont Blues , a blues genre that developed on the east coast of the USA between Maryland and Georgia. In addition to original compositions, the CD also contains interpretations of various blues classics such as B. " Worried Life Blues " by Maceo Merriweather or "Me and my Chauffeur" by Memphis Minnie . For the CD, John Cephas provides liner notes that provide the artist's thoughts on each piece. The song "Worried Life Blues" is dedicated to Big Chief Ellis , in whose band John Cephas was playing guitar when he first met Phil Wiggins.

Criticism

  • CMJ (2/15/99, p. 27) - "... The guitar-and-harmonica team works together perfectly to bring home the authentic sounds of the piedmont tradition of acoustic folk blues ... someone should erect a statue of them somewhere ..." (The guitar harmonica duo work perfectly together to bring out the authentic sound of the Piedmont tradition of acoustic folk blues ... someone should erect a memorial for them somewhere ...)
  • Washington Post - "Essential ... some of the best originals the duo has ever come up with" (Absolutely recommended ... some of the best original compositions the duo has ever released.)
  • Amazon Editorial Review by Genevieve Williams - There's a very laidback feel here, ... (comes across in a very relaxed atmosphere ...)
