Blind Boy Fuller (actually Fulton Allen ; born July 10, 1907 in Wadesboro , North Carolina , † February 13, 1941 in Durham , North Carolina) was an influential American blues guitarist and singer. Blind Boy Fuller, the star of the Piedmont Blues , is sometimes compared to Robert Johnson , the king of the Delta Blues .

Little is known about Blind Boy Fuller's early years. He was probably born between 1903 and 1908 in Wadesboro, North Carolina. The blues researcher Bruce Bastin decided on July 10, 1907 as his birthday.

When Fuller's mother died, the family moved to Rockingham , North Carolina. Here he met Cora Mae Martin, whom he married in 1926. At the wedding she was 14 and he was 18 years old. A little later, Fuller became completely blind; the cause is suspected to be a tumor . However, an unconfirmed legend tells of a jealous lover who poured chemicals in his eyes.

The young couple moved to Durham, North Carolina. Here Fuller met Reverend Gary Davis , who became his tutor. Fuller made his living busking. The businessman and talent scout James Baxter Long made it possible for him to shoot in New York in 1935 , together with Gary Davis and Bull City Red . Solo recordings followed in 1936 and 1937, which sold quite well.

Around this time, Fuller began with the harmonica - virtuoso Sonny Terry act with which he made several recordings together. In 1938, Fuller was diagnosed with syphilis ; his condition deteriorated noticeably. In early 1941, Fuller made his last recordings in Chicago with Red and Terry. He died in February 1941 and was buried in Durham.

In 2004 Blind Boy Fuller was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame .
