The Hong Kong Baptist University , or HKBU for short , ( Chinese  香港 浸 會 大學  /  香港 浸 会 大学 , Pinyin Xiānggǎng Jìnhuì Dàxué , Jyutping Hoeng 1 gong 2 Zam 3 wui 2 Daai 6 hok 6 ) was founded in 1956 by the Baptist Convention of Hong Kong was founded as the Hong Kong Baptist College with the support of the American Baptists and is the fourth oldest university in Hong Kong . Until it was recognized as a college in 1994, the name of the tertiary educational institution was Hong Kong Baptist College . The university is located in the Kowloon City District in the Kowloon Tong district on the Kowloon Peninsula in Hong Kong. HKBU is one of the nine public universities in Hong Kong.

The university library is located on the Shaw campus . The main library serves the entire HKBU staff and students and is spread over seven floors of the building. Of particular importance are the archives of Christian history in China and the contemporary Chinese research collection.
