Honey expert

The honey expert (HSV) is a beekeeper who is knowledgeable about honey and has a corresponding certificate of expertise in Germany .

Qualification

To qualify as honey expert (see also bee expert to be) qualified, must be a usually multi-day training concluded with successful testing. Prerequisites are usually several years of activity as a beekeeper (extraction and marketing of honey) as well as a certificate of honey certification. The training is offered by various institutes or (beekeeping) associations.

tasks

The tasks of a honey expert (always acting on a voluntary basis) can vary slightly from state to state. What they all have in common, however, is the training and advice of beekeepers to obtain a honey certificate. This includes in particular imparting knowledge regarding

  • Properties and ingredients of honey
  • correct processing and storage
  • Hygiene in honey extraction and processing
  • Current legal aspects relating to honey, especially labeling and declarations (see also Honey Ordinance )
  • Marketing aspects
  • Tasting and sensorial
  • Assessment of pollen analyzes

The tasks also include participation as an examiner or judge in honey awards.
