Honor (proper spelling: HONOR) is a smartphone brand of the Chinese Huawei group. As part of the two-brand strategy of the Huawei Consumer Business Group, Honor offers smartphones aimed at young consumers, but also sells tablet computers , notebooks and wearables . George Zhao has been Honor's global president since 2016, and Eva Wimmers is the brand's European president and global vice president.

History and business model

Honor 4X (2015)

Honor was founded in 2013.

Honor began its international expansion in April 2014 with the launch of the Honor 3C in Malaysia, followed by the launch of the Honor 6 in Europe in October. By June 2015, the brand was represented in 74 countries, including Europe, India and Japan.

In July 2015, Honor released the Honor 7 and announced in October of that year that it would increase its sales to $ 5 billion (double the previous year).

Since 2016 Honor has been selling its products mainly online via its own websites and via external online dealers. Some Honor products are available in physical stores in select markets. This sales strategy is also used by manufacturers such as Xiaomi and OnePlus .

With the introduction of Huawei's Honor 5X at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January 2016, Honor made its debut in the United States. Originally, this smartphone could only be purchased online. The Honor 5X was later offered by Huawei in selected stores.

In August 2016, the American tech blog Recode reported that Honor had sold over 60 million products, generating over $ 8.4 billion in revenue.

In December 2016, Honor presented the Honor Magic, which was launched on the eve of the brand's third birthday. The smartphone was equipped with artificial intelligence software that could use “intelligent interactive functions” based on user data.

In January 2017, Honor announced at CES that the Honor 6X, previously only available in China, would now be available in thirteen additional countries, including the United States. The smartphone received the “Best of CES 2017” award from several technology publications, including Android Authority, Digital Trends, Slash Gear and Talk Android.

The smartphone known in China as Honor V9 was launched in April 2017 as Honor 8 Pro.

The Honor 9 came out in June 2017 and shipped a million devices within the first month.

The Honor 10 was released in August 2018 and was named "EISA Lifestyle Smartphone 2018-2019". It has been hailed as "the perfect choice for even the most discerning younger user".

In September 2018, the Honor 8X and Honor 8X Max were launched in China. In the same month, the Honor Play was named “Best of IFA 2018” by Top Tier Global Media.

The Honor View 20 was presented in December 2018.

In January 2019, the Honor 10 Lite was launched with an AI-supported front camera with 24 megapixels. In the same month the HONOR View 20 was introduced.

In May 2019, the Honor 20 series came out. The smartphone received three awards from Android Authority, Android Police and Android Headline.

In October 2019, the Honor 9X series was introduced with a 48 megapixel main camera, an 8 megapixel wide-angle camera and a 2 megapixel depth sensor. The series has a pop-up selfie camera.

In December 2019, the Honor V30 series came out. Among other things, they offer 5G support, high battery power and triple-lens rear cameras.

In March 2020, the brand's first notebook came out with the Magicbook 14.

The company offers smartphones with Android and the EMUI user interface , tablet computers, notebooks and wearables.
