The Hopfersche paper factory is a listed former paper factory in Bernburg (Saale) in Saxony-Anhalt .

The factory buildings are located at Am Rosenhag 3, 5 on the Saale peninsula on the left bank of the Saale below Bernburg Castle .

Architecture and history

From 1805 August Hopfer built a paper mill here . In 1806 the mill owner's house was built. It has quarter circle connectors. In addition, a Dutch mill with two water wheels and accessories on the Saale weir and defeat building was built. The plant was modernized from 1854 by Eduard Hopfer. A new paper factory with a steam engine house, a second Dutch building, a rag boiling plant , a factory building with sorting rooms, a machine building with a steam boiler house, a glaze mill and a boiler house were built.

In 1872 a hydroelectric power station was built . At the same time, the Dutch building was converted into a machine room. In addition, planning began for the construction of the bosquet and a fountain in front of the residential building .

The Lange brothers acquired the factory in 1878. In 1890 a new turbine house was built in place of the accessories on the Saale weir . In 1908/09 an expansion of the facility took place. In the 1920s, however, there was a cessation of paper production.

In 1991 a large part of the factory building was demolished. The house from 1806, the modernized turbine and machine house as well as the factory building with the sorting rooms have been preserved. Only parts of the walls of the large building of the actual paper mill remained. A parking deck was installed. Large parts of the former company premises were built on with a residential complex.

In the local register of monuments , the factory is listed as a monument under registration number 094 60063.
