Horace Geoffrey Quaritch Wales

Horace Geoffrey Quaritch Wales (mostly HG Quaritch Wales; * 1900 in London , †  1983 ibid) was an English orientalist who primarily dealt with the cultural history of India , Burma and Siam .

Quaritch Wales was the grandson of Bernard Quaritch , a founder of the antiquarian and publishing bookstore of the same name in London who had emigrated from Germany (1847). He made numerous trips to India and Southeast Asia. So he observed u. a. 1930 the swing ceremony ( Sao Ching Cha ) at Wat Suthat , Bangkok and described it in his book Siamese State Ceremonies: their history and function ; he also described the rituals associated with pregnancy and childbirth in Siam, which have largely been lost today.

From 1950 to 1971 Quaritch Wales was on the Board of Directors of Quaritch Publishing.
