Horistus orientalis is a Palearctic species that belongs to the family of soft bugs or blind bugs (Miridae).

features

The bugs reach a length between 5.3 and 6.7 mm. The basic color of the bugs is dark brown to black. A white stripe runs centrally over the head and pronotum. Another white line runs laterally over the pronotum. A yellow stripe runs centrally over the scutellum . The hemielytres are covered with a pattern of light brown, white and dark brown longitudinal stripes. The outer edges of the hemielytras are white. The cuneus is yellowish in color.

distribution

The distribution area of Horistus orientalis extends from the Black Sea region and Asia Minor , the Mediterranean region including the North African coast to Central Europe. The species is absent in Northern Europe and the British Isles.

Way of life

The bugs are often found in meadows where they suck on pollen. Their forage plants include gundermann ( Glechoma hederacea ), common yarrow ( Achillea millefolium ) and forest angelica ( Angelica sylvestris ). The species overwinters as an egg. Adult bedbugs can be seen between mid-May and August.
