The Horlick Mountains are a mountain group of the Transantarctic Mountains in West Antarctic Marie Byrd Land , which includes the Wisconsin Range , the Long Hills and the Ohio Range east of the Reedy Glacier .
The group was discovered on two flights that took place in November and December 1934 as part of the second Antarctic expedition (1933-1935) of the American polar explorer Richard Evelyn Byrd . Portions of the Wisconsin Range were mapped using photographs during Operation Highjump (1946–1947). The entire mountain range was mapped by survey teams from the United States Antarctic Program and using aerial photographs taken by the United States Navy between 1959 and 1964. Byrd named the mountains after a sponsor of his expedition, the entrepreneur William Horlick (1846-1936).
