Hormoz Qarib

Hormoz Qarib ( Persian هرمز قریب; * 1916 in Tehran ) was an Iranian diplomat .

He was the son of Abbas Qoli Qarib (Motarjem-ol-Mamalek), a Foreign Ministry official.

He studied economics and received a Ph.D. in political science from Istanbul University .

Career

In 1937 he entered the foreign service and became consul in Istanbul . Subsequently he was Deputy Chief of Protocol, Legation Councilor in Bern , Prague and Tehran, and Chairman of the Iranian delegation to the Irano-Turkish Border Demarcation Commission. He headed the Department of Politics in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He had toured Turkey and most of the European countries. He spoke French, English, Turkish and some German.

From October 21, 1957 to 1963 he was ambassador to Bern .

From 1964 to 1968 he was ambassador to Tokyo and from February 27, 1966 he was also accredited to Taiwan at the same time .

In 1970 he became chief of protocol. In this capacity, he was involved in the 2500th anniversary of the Iranian monarchy of Cyrus II from October 12 to 16, 1971, until the nervous breakdown .

From September 16, 1977 to 1979 he was ambassador to the Italian government in Rome .
